An accused in the sensational Walayar lynching case, was found dead near his house at Attappallam in Walayar, Palakkad, Kerala, on Wednesday (April 8, 2026) morning. The case pertains to the killing of Dalit migrant worker Ram Narayan Baghel, a native of Chhattisgarh.
Vinod Kumar, 54, from East Attappallam, who was found dead, was the sixth accused in the case. The police suspect that he died by suicide. His body has been shifted to the Government District Hospital, Palakkad, for postmortem examination.

Vinod Kumar had been out on bail, and the Kerala High Court was scheduled to consider an application by the special investigation team (SIT) seeking cancellation of his bail.
Ram Narayan Baghel, a resident of Champa district in Chhattisgarh, was lynched by a mob at Attappallam on the afternoon of December 17, 2025, four days after he had arrived in Kerala in search of work. A father of two children aged eight and 10, he was allegedly detained, questioned and lynched by a group that accused him of theft.
