A 19-year-old man and his mother have been arrested in connection with a hit-and-run case that led to the death of a domestic worker in south Delhi’s Greater Kailash-1, the Delhi police said on Tuesday.
The accident, which took place at 8.31 p.m. on March 31, involved a car and a bike. The accused, identified as Ruhaan Chadha, drove in a “rash and negligent manner” and hit the bike of Surendra Das. The victim was rushed to a hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival by doctors, the police said.
The accused’s mother, Niharika Chadha, the registered owner of the vehicle, was arrested for concealing evidence and failing to report the crime. An FIR was registered at the Greater Kailash police station.
“After analysing CCTV footage, we were able to narrow down on a silver car... During interrogation of the accused, it was revealed that the vehicle was concealed and attempts were made to get it repaired,” Anant Mittal, Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) said, adding that further investigation is under way.
