“Late Show” host Stephen Colbert on Monday skewered President Donald Trump over his Easter Sunday social media post — in which he used profanity, signed off with a traditional Muslim greeting and threatened Iran with “Hell” amid an escalating war he started.
“I hope you all had a great weekend, whether you celebrated Passover or Easter or, like our president, went 100% cage-free crazy on the internet — because on Easter morning he posted his latest plans for the war in Iran,” Colbert said at the top of his opening monologue.
Colbert went on to read Trump’s staggering post in a mocking, puffed-up voice.
“Tuesday will be Power Plant Day, and Bridge Day, all wrapped up in one, in Iran. There will be nothing like it!!! Open the Fuckin’ Strait, you crazy bastards, or you’ll be living in Hell - JUST WATCH!”
Iran last month effectively closed the Strait of Hormuz, through which a fifth of the world’s oil passes, after Trump launched the war, which has resulted in the death of at least 13 U.S. service members and more than 2,000 Iranians, and now threatens to trigger a global energy crisis.
