ISLAMABAD: Pakistan on Tuesday condemned Iran’s missile and drone attacks on Saudi Arabia’s energy facilities, calling them a violation of the Kingdom’s sovereignty and a dangerous escalation in the ongoing regional conflict.
Officials in Riyadh said earlier in the day that ballistic missiles and drones launched toward its Eastern Region had been intercepted, though debris fell near key energy infrastructure, as Iran continued attacks across the Gulf following the start of the war triggered by US and Israeli strikes on Feb. 28.
“The Government of Pakistan expresses its deep concern and unequivocal condemnation of the missile and drone attacks carried out by the Islamic Republic of Iran last night against energy facilities in the Eastern Region of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia,” the foreign office said in a statement.
“Pakistan mourns the loss of life resulting from these attacks and strongly deplores the damage inflicted on vital infrastructure,” it added, conveying “sincere condolences to the families of the victims.”
“The Government of Pakistan considers these attacks a serious violation of Saudi Arabia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and a dangerous escalation that undermines regional peace and stability,” it continued while reaffirming its “unwavering support for the Kingdom’s security.”
