RIYADH: Parrotfish season is currently bringing one of the most remarkable natural and cultural scenes in the Kingdom to Al-Hasis Beach, where nature and local heritage come together in a maritime tableau that recurs every year.

After a months-long journey from the Indian Ocean through the Arabian Sea and into the Red Sea, schools of parrotfish arrive at the Farasan Islands in an annual phenomenon.

They gather at Al-Hasis Beach, where shallow, warm waters provide ideal conditions for spawning — a natural wonder that sets the Farasan Islands apart, the Saudi Press Agency reported on Tuesday.

Parrotfish, locally known as “harid,” are among the most striking and diverse marine species, living in coral reefs and playing a vital role in the ecosystem.

Known for their beak-like mouths and vibrant colors, they comprise over 90 species, each with unique shapes and hues, the SPA added.
