BEIRUT: Israel struck a building in south Beirut on Sunday after issuing an evacuation warning, Lebanese state media reported, as the Israeli military said it was hitting Hezbollah targets.
“The enemy targeted the threatened building in the Ghobeiry area toward Bir Hassan-Jnah,” Lebanon’s state-run National News Agency reported.
A medical source told AFP the strike made impact about 100 meters away from Rafik Hariri University Hospital, the largest public medical facility in the country.
An AFP photographer saw a missile hit a building and Israeli warplanes flying at low altitude over the capital.
The Israeli military earlier said that it had begun striking Hezbollah targets in Beirut.
