Hearts reclaimed their status as Scottish Premiership leaders but missed the chance to restore their three‑point cushion after being held to a 2-2 draw by the bottom side, Livingston. The Jambos had been knocked off the top for the first time since September after Rangers edged ahead of them on goal difference by defeating Dundee United on Saturday.Although they ended the weekend a point clear at the top with six games to play, there was a huge sense of frustration among the 7,000 travelling supporters at Almondvale after the Edinburgh side dropped points for the fourth away game in succession.Goals from the Hearts strikers Lawrence Shankland and Cláudio Braga had overturned Stevie May’s early opener, only for the Lions to equalise through Lewis Smith – and Hearts finished the game with 10 men as Marc Leonard saw red in added time.“Absolutely two points dropped,” said Hearts head coach, Derek McInnes. “We lost two really poor goals. We came here with a lot of motivation, the fans turned up and I thought we looked ready for that … but we were guilty of giving up that control and authority.”Kelechi Iheanacho’s first goal in six months enabled Celtic to cut the gap on Hearts to three points as they ended their troubles in Dundee with a 2-1 win at Dens Park.Iheanacho outmuscled Ryan Astley to control Marcelo Saracchi’s cross and fire home the winner from six yards. The 82nd-minute goal ensured the third-placed champions took advantage of Hearts dropping two points.Celtic had lost in all three previous trips to Dundee this season and looked like they might slip up again when Simon Murray equalised from a VAR-assisted penalty in the 57th minute. Steven McLean ultimately pointed to the spot after Astley hit a bouncing ball off the outstretched arm of Colby Donovan.Dundee rarely threatened before then and had fallen behind when Yang Hyun-jun got the final touch in an eighth-minute attack. Celtic missed a series of chances before the leveller but Iheanacho’s long-awaited goal was soon followed by a red card for Astley as the visitors made the three-way title fight as tight as it has been all season.“For the first time, a fortnight ago, I had to question whether we really, really wanted it,” the Celtic manager, Martin O’Neill, said.“Forget about the pitch, just in the second half I felt we didn’t show an appetite to get into the game. Then you have a fortnight to think about it so we’ve come in with renewed determination, to try to get in front and take the game away from Dundee. We did that, we’re still in it and still have a lot to ponder.“Did we reset our attitude? Absolutely, I think we did, and that was to do with the way we approached the game right from the off. We carved out chances. When the second goal didn’t come, maybe it’s just the pessimistic side to me, but I felt it might come back to haunt us. They got the penalty, the resurgence of confidence, so it was tough.“But we had to try to do something because a draw was no good for us.”Kelechi Iheanacho fires home Celtic’s 82nd-minute winner from close range. Photograph: Euan Cherry/PADanny Röhl told his Rangers side to stay “on the front foot” during the Premiership run-in after a 4-2 win against Dundee United on Saturday. Goals from Ryan Naderi, Dujon Sterling, Thelo Aasgaard and Bojan Miovski proved too much in the end for United, who scored through Amar Fatah and Zac Sapsford.Rangers were 13 points behind Hearts when Röhl took over as manager in October and for a day they led the Jambos on goal difference with six games remaining, before their rivals travelled to Livingston on Sunday.Röhl said: “I was really surprised that this is the first time we’ve been top in two years. But the most important thing is that we still have the right mindset. Even now we are top, we have to stay as the hunter.“We have to be on the front foot and if we win six games then we will have something at the end of the season. I am really convinced that my players have the potential to do this. But there is still a long way to go and it’s no secret that next week away to Falkirk is a very, very difficult game.“We will take things step by step, but we had nine ‘finals’ and we have won the first three of them. That gives us a good feeling, but nothing more. We have to be humble and ready for the next fight.”Ante Suto stretches to score Hibernian’s third against Kilmarnock at Easter Road. Photograph: Malcolm Mackenzie/Getty ImagesHibernian benefited from a fast start as they defeated Kilmarnock 3-0 at Easter Road to turn up the heat on Motherwell in the battle for fourth. Hibs struck twice in the opening 12 minutes through Owen Elding and Felix Passlack before Ante Suto scored in stoppage time. The victory moved them within three points of Well, who briefly held an eight-point advantage over the Hibees a little over a month ago. While Hibernian – now unbeaten in six matches – are chasing a position that would ensure a European place next season, Killie remain in the relegation playoff spot, three points adrift of St Mirren and Aberdeen.St Mirren wrecked Stephen Robinson’s hopes of a winning return to Paisley as they overcame Aberdeen 2-0 in a hard-fought encounter at St Mirren Park. The Dons manager returned to his former club for the first time since swapping the Buddies for Aberdeen last month, but he left empty-handed to leave his new sidethree points above the relegation playoff spot.Jonah Ayunga’s 40th-minute opener put St Mirren’s interim manager, Craig McLeish, on his way to back-to-back league victories, before Alex Gogic’s towering 83rd-minute header made sure of a result that moved them level on points with their ninth-placed opponents.Falkirk secured a top-six finish with a 3-2 win at Motherwell. Barney Stewart opened the scoring with a fine header on three minutes and that set the tone at Fir Park. Elliot Watt’s fizzing volley levelled things up against the run of play, but the Bairns pounced before the break to restore their lead as Ben Broggio gleefully tapped into an empty net after Watt’s pass-back had gone astray.Calvin Miller provided some breathing space just after the hour from the spot before the Bairns saw out the remainder of the contest to ensure they finished in the top half of the top flight for the first time in 31 years. Tawanda Maswanhise scored at the end as the hosts fell to a third loss in four league games.
