“The Pitt” is saying goodbye to another doctor in the ER.

On Thursday, Variety reported that Supriya Ganesh, who plays senior resident Dr. Samira Mohan, will not return for Season 3 of the Emmy-winning series. According to a source with knowledge, Ganesh’s exit from the show is a “story-driven decision,” as her character has spent most of Season 2 trying to decide what the next phase of her career will look like once her residency ends.

Ganesh has starred on “The Pitt” since the show debuted early last year. Her departure follows that of former co-star Tracy Ifeachor, who portrayed Dr. Heather Collins in Season 1 and left afterward.

While it looks like “The Pitt” may have been setting up Ganesh’s exit all along — especially since the Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center is a teaching hospital, and Noah Wyle’s Dr. Robby has hinted that Mohan’s talents might be better suited outside of the busy ER — fans were still frustrated to learn that she won’t be back next season.

It remains to be seen how Mohan’s storyline will unfold over the remainder of the season and how the senior resident will ultimately be written out when the show returns. But fans won’t soon forget this latest blow to the “Pitt” crew.
