Hyderabad is set to host seven matches of the 19th edition of the Indian Premier League between April 5 and May 22 at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium in Uppal. Over 2,000 police personnel would be deployed for the cricket tournament.
The stadium, which has a seating capacity of around 39,000, will witness both day and night matches, beginning with the fixture between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Lucknow Super Giants on April 5. Police personnel, including law and order, traffic, security, intelligence, special forces and four fire tenders with firefighting squad, would be deployed to prevent any untoward incidents.
Officials stated that extensive surveillance measures have been introduced, with around 430 CCTV cameras installed in and around the stadium, including entry points, parking areas and approach roads. A joint command and control room has been established to monitor live feeds and enable swift response to any situation.
Anti-sabotage checks will be carried out round-the-clock on match days, with bomb disposal squads and sniffer dogs pressed into service.
Entry into the stadium will be strictly regulated, with Gate No. 1 reserved exclusively for players and authorised personnel. Spectators will be allowed entry through designated gates as per their tickets, and gates will open three hours before the start of matches. Police have also put in place evacuation plans and emergency response teams, along with an increased number of ambulances and fire tenders stationed at the venue.
