The flying squad officials of the Election Commission has seized three gold bars weighing 517 grams from a man near Sowcarpet after he failed to produce valid documents during a vehicle check on Wednesday.

While they were conducting vehicle checks on Vallalar Road in New Washermanpet, near a marriage hall, officials stopped Kaushik Jain, a resident of Subramani Street in Parry’s Corner, who was travelling on a two-wheeler. Upon checking, they found 517 grams of gold, estimated to be worth ₹75 lakh, in his possession without supporting documents.

During questioning, he told officials that he was transporting the gold on the instructions of his employer in Thiruvottiyur, who is involved in jewellery manufacturing. He said the gold had been melted and was being taken to a goldsmith unit in Sowcarpet.

As Jain failed to show valid documents, the officials seized the gold and handed it over to the returning officer of the R.K. Nagar Constituency for further verification.
