April 2 (UPI) -- The Pittsburgh Pirates will promote shortstop Konnor Griffin, baseball's top prospect, to their big league roster, they announced Thursday.

Griffin, 19, joined the Pirates as the No. 9 overall pick in the 2024 MLB Draft. He hit .336 with 21 home runs, 26 doubles, 95 RBIs and 68 stolen bases over the first 127 minor league appearances..

Griffin went 7 for 16 with three doubles and three stolen bases over his first five appearances this season for the Triple-A Indianapolis Indians.

The 2025 Minor League Baseball Player of the Year is now on track to join the Pirates' lineup for a game against the Baltimore Orioles on Friday in Pittsburgh.
