Pope Leo on Holy Thursday performed the Easter rite of the Washing of the Feet, washing and kissing the feet of twelve priests in the Basilica of St.

John Lateran, thus reenacting Jesus' gesture at the Last Supper.

This return to tradition, after his predecessor Francis washed the feet of migrants and prisoners, is the first novelty of his first Easter as Pope: tomorrow, during the traditional Via Crucis at the Colosseum, he will personally carry the Cross through all 14 stations.
