"My responsibility is now absolute." As allegations of sexual assault and rape of minors continue to shake the after-school programs organized by the city of Paris, the new mayor, Emmanuel Grégoire, promised on Franceinfo on Monday, March 30, that announcements would be made "in the coming days." Officially installed as mayor the day before, Grégoire pledged to "completely overhaul" the Parisian after-school system and repeated that this issue would be the "top priority" at the start of his term.
During his inaugural speech on Sunday, Grégoire listed the review of all recruitment, training and disciplinary procedures for after-school staff employed by the city as priorities, as well as support for victims. On Monday, the new mayor met with two parents' groups: MeTooEcole and SOS Périscolaire. This signaled a change in approach compared to 2025, when the scandal about sexual misconduct in after-school programs broke. At that time, families met only with the deputy mayor for education, Patrick Bloche, and not with Mayor Anne Hidalgo herself. Grégoire has also announced an extraordinary session of the Paris Council dedicated to after-school programs for mid-April.
