Claiming that the large numbers of Form 6 applications were being submitted in a questionable manner weeks ahead of the Assembly polls in the State, Trinamool Congress general secretary Abhishek Banerjee on Monday (March 31, 2026) said that the Election Commission of India was changing the demography of the State by adding voters from Bihar and Uttar Pradesh in the electoral rolls.

Form 6 is mandated by the Election Commission of India (ECI) for the inclusion of a new voter in the electoral rolls. Mr. Banerjee shared a video on social media stating that it “appears to show thousands of such forms being processed and stacked, raising valid questions about the scale and intent behind this exercise”.

So far the charge of changing demography of the State was raised by the Bharatiya Janata Party leaders including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, indicating that Muslims population in the State was increasing because of illegal infiltration

On Monday, the Trinamool Congress leader turned tables on the BJP leadership saying that about 30,000 applications under Form 6 have been submitted in the State. “The BJP wants to turn Bengal into Bihar, Uttar Pradesh and Gujarat,” Mr. Banerjee said. The Trinamool Congress leader demanded that the CEO office should release the CCTV footage of people who submitted the Form 6 in bulk.
