A 15-year-old student near San Antonio, Texas shot a teacher and then fatally shot himself, according to law enforcement.
The shooting occurred at Hill Country College Preparatory High School in Bulverde, Texas on March 30, the Comal County Sheriff’s Office said.
The teacher was taken to a hospital in San Antonio and the student involved died at the scene from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, Cary Zayas, spokesperson for the sheriff's office, told USA TODAY. Zayas said the school district has not yet provided law enforcement with an update on the teacher's condition.
"We know this is incredibly difficult to hear," the sheriff's office said in a statement on social media. "What we can tell you is this situation is contained, and there is no ongoing threat to students."
The school went on lockdown as the investigation continued and students were transported to a nearby middle school, according to an update from the sheriff's office at 9:25 a.m. local time. USA TODAY has reached out to the Comal Independent School District for more information.
