The Madras Diabetes Research Foundation (MDRF) has partnered with Premas Life Sciences to strengthen research in genomics — the study of genes and related fields — with a focus on chronic diseases such as diabetes.

The partnership, announced on March 30, will enable the MDRF to use advanced gene-sequencing technologies developed by Illumina. Premas Life Sciences will support the implementation of these technologies and help streamline research processes.

Researchers said the collaboration would bring together genomics and other biological data approaches, often referred to as “multi-omics”, to better understand how diseases develop and progress. A key focus will be on developing research methods, diagnostic tools, and applications suited to India’s specific disease patterns, particularly diabetes and related metabolic conditions.

The agreement also includes training programmes for researchers, clinicians, and students, aimed at building skills in next-generation sequencing and data analysis. Workshops and knowledge-sharing sessions are planned as part of this effort. Premas Life Sciences will also help connect the foundation with academic and industry partners for collaborative research.
