Pope Leo XIV on Monday told mayors from his native Illinois to continue their commitment to migrants.
Receiving in audience a delegation from the Illinois Municipal League, which represents approximately 1,300 municipalities in the American state, Chicago-born Leo said: "Although many commitments require your attention every day, I encourage you to continue listening to the poor, immigrants, and all the least among you, seeking to accompany them in your work of promoting the common good for the benefit of all.
"In this way, each of your municipalities can be a place of authentic encounter between all citizens, offering each individual the opportunity for full self-realization."
