Bharatanatyam guru Priyadarsini Govind was on Sunday conferred the title of Natya Kalasarathy by Sri Parthasarathiswamy Sabha at the conclusion of its annual Bharat Nritya Utsav at Narada Gana Sabha.

Speaking after presenting the title, Bharatanatyam guru Sudharani Raghupathy, who had also been previously given the title, said that it was in 1969 that she presented her first performance for the sabha. She appreciated the organisers for giving opportunity to young and upcoming artists.

Sabha president and industrialist Nalli Kuppuswamy Chetti said that the sabha at 126, was the oldest sabha in southeast Asia. He appreciated the Bharatanatyam gurus for taking the art to various parts of the world.

Honorary secretary of the Sabha M. Krishnamurthy said that during the 63-day long dance festival, over 200 musicians and 77 gurus from across the country and the globe participated. Despite these, 350 biodatas still remained.

Ms. Govind thanked the sabha, its patrons and art lovers for respecting the arts. She said that she looked up to seniors such as Ms. Raghupathy, to learn, to adapt and be relevant at every point.
