The Delhi High Court has stayed the eviction of the Delhi Race Club and the Indian Polo Association from their historic premises in the capital.
In two separate matters, Justice Mini Pushkarna restrained the Centre from taking coercive action based on eviction notices issued on March 12, 2026, concerning the Jaipur Polo Ground in the Race Course area, and the Delhi Race Club at Kamal Ataturk Marg.
Following the notices, both Delhi Race Club and Jaipur Polo Ground approached the court with their separate pleas.
Delhi Race Club’s counsel submitted that the club was granted 53 acre premises situated at Race Course Road on perpetual lease by the government in 1926 and has continued in possession while paying ground rent.
On the other hand, the Centre submitted that after the year 1994, the lease of the club has not been extended. It argued that the acceptance of any money by the government “does not take away the fact, that lease of the plaintiff (Club) has not been extended”.
