The end of Ramadan, on Friday, March 20, was supposed to bring a pause to a war that has relentlessly torn Sudan apart. But the Eid al-Fitr celebration was cut short in El-Daein, the capital of East Darfur. Two drone strikes by the Sudanese army targeted the city's university hospital that evening, killing 70 and injuring 146, according to the World Health Organization (WHO).

The facility, which had served as the main healthcare center for a population of two million, is now out of commission. The WHO condemned yet another attack "against the very possibility of survival" targeting civilian infrastructure.

In videos authenticated by Le Monde, the hospital's façade is visible, largely destroyed by the blast. The upper floor of the main building, which housed the emergency and trauma services, is in ruins. Satellite imagery confirms that the roof partially collapsed from the impact.
