DUBAI: At least 121 children have been killed in Lebanon, with 399 injured since Israel’s operations began, according to a UNICEF representative.
Some 20 percent of Lebanon’s population has also been displaced, news agency Reuters has quoted the source as saying. Of those, more than 370,000 are children who have been forced out of their homes.
The upheaval of entire communities began with Israel’s attack on the south of the country.
The latest conflict was triggered on March 2 when Hezbollah launched a barrage of rockets and drones at Israel, saying it was retaliation for the killing of Ali Khamenei, Iran’s supreme leader, in joint US-Israeli strikes on Feb. 28.
The Iran-backed group had reportedly refrained from firing on Israel for 15 months following the ceasefire of November 2024, a period during which Lebanese officials accused Israel of near-daily violations.
