In the photo taken by a journalist of the French regional newspaper Centre Presse Aveyron in March 2023, Cédric P. holds a large white sign reading "domestic violence" in printed red letters, followed in black by "woman with amnesia from stab wounds protected by the justice system," and again in red, "my son is in grave danger." By his side, two men protest in front of the town hall of Rodez, southern France, decrying that "in France, being a father is a crime."

At the time, the former police officer was seeking to draw attention to a "grave miscarriage of justice" of which he believed he was a victim. "I will go all the way, I will protest in front of the Rodez courthouse every day, and if necessary, I will chain myself in front of the European Court of Human Rights to get justice," he warned. Three years later, on Friday, March 20, five people were reported missing: Audrey and her 12-year-old son, Elio, whom she had with Cédric P.; Cédric P.'s current partner, Angela, 26, and their nearly 2-year-old daughter; and Cédric P. himself.
