With the third phase of the Election Commission’s special intensive revision (SIR) of voter rolls likely to begin in April, poll officials in Delhi have been carrying out preparatory work for the past two months.

About 17,000 Booth Level Officers (BLOs) are conducting door-to-door visits in their assigned areas under 13,033 polling stations across the national capital’s 70 Assembly constituencies. The BLOs are linking electors listed in the 2025 voter list with entries in the electoral rolls of 2002, the last time the SIR was conducted in Delhi.

Electors whose names do not appear in the 2002 list but have blood relations in it will be considered for progeny mapping. Electors neither listed in the 2002 list nor with relatives in it will be labelled as unmapped. They will be called for a hearing and have to submit documents to prove that they are legitimate voters.

The mapping exercise is aimed at easing the enumeration process when the SIR formally begins in Delhi. BLOs in Bihar, the first State to undertake the exercise last year ahead of the Assembly election, had faced challenges during the initial phase of the SIR. However, according to data accessed by The Hindu and information from poll officials, the exercise in Delhi has achieved only about 34% progress so far against an internal target of 50%.
