Iran allowed 10 oil tankers to pass through the strategic Strait of Hormuz as a “present” to show it was serious about negotiations to end the war, U.S. President Donald Trump said at at a Cabinet meeting in the White House on Thursday (March 26, 2026).

Meanwhile, Iran’s initial response to the U.S. proposal to end the war, which was conveyed to Pakistan, was that it was “one-sided and unfair”, a senior Iranian official told Reuters on Thursday (March 26, 2026), adding that a path forward might still be found if realism prevailed in Washington.
Iran’s Parliament is working on a bill to formalise the fees it is reportedly charging on some ship transiting through the Strait of Hormuz, local media reported.
