A 22-year-old youth and a 17-year-old girl have been arrested by the Jawaharnagar police, Malkajgiri Commissionerate, for the murder of the latter’s mother whose body was buried inside their home nearly a year ago.
Police said D. Anju, 40, a domestic worker from Alwal, was murdered at her residence on May 12 last year. The crime surfaced during the investigation of a missing person case registered later that year after she failed to return home.
Police said the prime accused, Monti Kumar Singh, had developed a relationship with the victim’s minor daughter despite strong opposition from the mother. The relationship had earlier led to cases being registered against him under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act in Jawaharnagar and Bolaram police stations in 2024 and 2025, respectively.
Investigations revealed that the accused, along with the minor girl, conspired to kill Anju. On the day of the incident, he hid inside the house and, upon the victim’s return, stabbed her in the chest while the girl restrained her, said police. The woman died on the spot.
In an attempt to destroy evidence, the duo allegedly wrapped the body, hid it under a bed and later buried it within the house using cement and sand. They misled family members by claiming repair work was being carried out and also destroyed the victim’s mobile phone, said police.
