In a bid to improve enforcement against unauthorised banners and hoardings in the city, Bengaluru corporations are planning new measures such as fixing accountability and introducing a “night patrol” system.

Among the major reasons behind the banner issue in the city are poor ground-level enforcement, lack of coordination, and the timing of banner installations.

Pommala Sunil Kumar, commissioner of the North City Corporation, told The Hindu that they are issuing a circular fixing accountability on assistant executive engineers to keep vigil on unauthorised banners.

“Hereafter, we will issue show-cause notices, which will increase accountability. This will also improve coordination between departments, enhancing field-level enforcement,” Mr. Kumar said.

In addition, a senior officer from the East City Corporation said they are rolling out a night patrol system from the first week of April, under which dedicated teams will keep vigil on illegal installations.
