Tech journalist Kara Swisher vowed Monday to leave CNN if the network’s parent company, Warner Bros. Discovery, is acquired by Paramount Skydance and its Trump ally CEO David Ellison.
Swisher, who has been a CNN on-air contributor and panelist since 2023, plainly declared, “I’m not working for you hacks.”
She was speaking at Syracuse University when moderator Margaret Talev, a professor and fellow journalist, listed artificial intelligence and social media as threats to journalism — and Swisher cut in to add: “the purchasing of media by technology billionaires.”
Skydance’s merger with Paramount last year has led to layoffs and extremely negative reactions and ratings at CBS.
“Scott, good move,” Swisher said in an aside to master of ceremonies Scott McFarlane, who left CBS after Ellison took over. “You’ll love it out here, it’s much better. You don’t want to work for the Ellisons. I’ve spent a lot of time with Larry Ellison, and he’s a terrible person.”
