World Down Syndrome Day was observed at the Institute of Social Paediatrics, Government Stanley Medical College Hospital (SMCH), on Friday.

In line with the World Down Syndrome Day that falls on March 21, an awareness programme was organised at the hospital, according to a press release. The event emphasised the importance of this year’s World Down Syndrome Day theme — “Together Against Loneliness”.

A total of 32 children with Down Syndrome took part. Cultural events showcasing the individual skills of the children were conducted, and prizes were distributed.

A total of 52 children with Down Syndrome are registered at the District Early Intervention Centre and are undergoing early intervention modalities such as multisensory stimulation for their holistic development.

Dean of SMCH A. Aravind and Director of the Institute of Social Paediatrics J. Ganesh, along with other hospital authorities and faculty members, participated.
