LOS ANGELES, March 20 (UPI) -- Mena Suvari and India Eisley said fake blood and real shoes were the biggest challenges of their horror film Vampires of the Velvet Lounge, in theaters Friday. The women play vampires who lure men to their lair via online dating platforms.

In a recent Zoom interview with UPI, Suvari said there were different types of blood depending on the scene. In some scenes, she is splattered with blood while in others she bathes in it.

"There are certain chemicals you have to work with that makeup has to remove it because otherwise it will just stain you pink," Suvari, 47, said. "When it was thrown in our faces, because it would go in our eyes, we had to be careful to make sure that we weren't hurt in the process."

Eisley's character eats a beetle in the film. The props department made edible bugs to go in her mouth.

"One tasted kind of citrusy and was crunchy," Eisley, 32, said. "They tasted quite nice, quite zesty."
