Deputy Premier, Transport Minister and League leader Matteo Salvini said that proposals on bringing down fuel prices will be assessed at a meeting of Premier Giorgia Meloni's cabinet on Wednesday, arguing that it is necessary to bring the cost of diesel back down below 1.90 euros a litre.

"In my opinion, we need to get below 1.90 euros per litre, not just below two euros, for diesel obviously, so (a reduction of) at least 20 to 25 cents per litre," Salvini said before a meeting with oil companies in Milan.

"There is a cabinet meeting tonight, and let's say that the proposals we in the League have been putting forward for days are a price cap and action on excise duties, as well as a discussion in Brussels on other forms of taxation, such as the ETS, which at the moment makes no sense, and the Green Deal, which at the moment is truly suicide".
