March 17 (UPI) -- Firefighters in Ontario came to the rescue of a golden retriever that fell through the ice covering a frozen river and plunged into the frigid water.

The Ottawa Fire Service said it's Ice Rescue Teams responded Sunday to the Jock River in Richmond, where a 911 caller had reported dog fell through the ice and was struggling to keep its head above the water.

"Firefighters arrived on scene and our Ice Rescue Teams confirmed the dog was clinging to an ice shelf approximately 15 feet from shore," the OFS said on social media.
