To improve coordination and resource management across three city hospitals, the Delhi government has decided to integrate key public medical institutions and convert them into a unified autonomous institution on the lines of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) said on Sunday.

The move to convert Guru Teg Bahadur (GTB) Hospital, the Delhi State Cancer Institute, and the Rajiv Gandhi Super Speciality Hospital into an institute follows Chief Minister Rekha Gupta’s recent review meeting, attended by Health Minister Pankaj Kumar Singh and other officials, aimed at transforming Delhi into a medical hub. The focus of the meeting was on improving the use of existing resources, as per the CMO.

The Institute of Human Behaviour and Allied Sciences will also be developed along the lines of the National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro Sciences, a major national centre for mental health and neurosciences.

Systemic distribution

Ms. Gupta said that once the institutions are integrated, super-speciality services will be “distributed more systematically” among hospitals, ensuring that patients receive the most appropriate specialist care.
