ISLAMABAD: At least one person was killed and 13 others were injured in a collision between a passenger train and a stationery goods train in Pakistan’s southern Sindh province, rescue officials said on Sunday.
The incident occurred when Karachi-Lahore Shalimar Express rammed into a stationery goods train at the Lakha Road station near Sindh’s Naushahro Feroze district.
A Rescue 1122 spokesperson said their Urban Search and Rescue team recovered one body and rescued 13 injured persons, who were administered first aid on the spot.
Taking notice of the incident, Railways Minister Hanif Abbasi ordered a high-level inquiry to identify those responsible for the incident.
“An inquiry report be submitted to the ministry within three days,” he was quoted as saying by the Railways Ministry. “Those responsible should be punished as per the law.”
