Minister for Municipal Administration and Urban Development (MAUD) P. Narayana said that the Visakhapatnam Metro Rail Project is currently under examination by the Central government. A consultancy firm is conducting a study on the project and the process is expected to be completed within two months. Following this, steps will be taken to expedite the project with the aim of completing the metro system within three years, he added.

Addressing the media as part of a regional workshop under the Urban Investment Window (UWIN) programme in Visakhapatnam on Sunday (March 15, 2025), Mr. Narayana said that steps are being taken to develop a semi-ring road for the city on the lines of the Outer Ring Road in Hyderabad.

The proposed project, stretching from Rambilli to Bhogapuram, is currently under examination by the Visakhapatnam Metropolitan Region Development Authority (VMRDA). He further stated that a road proposed in the master plan had earlier faced obstacles due to issues related to forest land. However, the matter was resolved after discussions with Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and Deputy Chief Minister K. Pawan Kalyan.

The Minister noted that several housing projects initiated during the previous government had been delayed. He said that more than 20,000 houses had remained incomplete and are in various stages of construction. The present government has restarted the works and is taking steps to ensure their speedy completion.
