“Suddenly, everybody realises that their loved ones are being impacted.” Dr Waheed Arian is reflecting on the ever-growing cost of the current war in the Middle East, as many are right now. But in his case, it is from the standpoint of a world expert on the long-lasting consequences of civilians experiencing trauma in a war zone. And, in this context, he argues that this is a war unlike any other in recent memory because so many of those civilians trapped in the chaos are not “others” but expat and travelling Brits.
