Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday (March 13, 2026) said the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) ended years of deprivation that Assam’s tea plantation workers faced under Congress rule by facilitating their land rights.

He ceremonially distributed land deeds to about 28,000 tea garden workers residing in the labour lines of major tea estates across poll-bound Assam. This is the first such initiative in the almost 200-year history of Assam tea.

The Prime Minister also released the 22nd instalment of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme, transferring over ₹18,640 crore to more than 9.32 crore farmers across the country. About 19 lakh of these farmers are in Assam.
