Delhi police on Tuesday arrested two persons in connection with the murder and robbery of businessman Vaibhav Gandhi after a brief exchange of fire in Shahbad Dairy.

An earlier social media post claimed that the assailants are linked with the Lawrence Bishnoi gang. However, the police had refuted such claims while announcing the arrests of six other persons in the case in February.

The incident occurred on February 9, when Mr. Gandhi arrived at his factory in Bawana with two other employees in a car. As soon as he stepped out of the car, four men carrying pistols surrounded them. One of them followed Mr. Gandhi when he tried to flee and shot him. The accused fled the scene, while the employees took Mr. Gandhi to Mahavir Valmiki Hospital, where he was declared brought dead by the doctors. The police had registered an FIR later that day for murder and robbery under the sections of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Arms Act.

On the intervening night of March 9 and 10, the police acted on intelligence from sources indicating that two suspects would be present in Shahbad Dairy around midnight. The police teams intercepted the two accused, and to evade arrests, they opened fire on the officers, shooting six rounds, the police said.
