March 10 (UPI) -- Duke starting point guard Caleb Foster fractured his right foot and is out indefinitely, Blue Devils coach Jon Scheyer told reporters Tuesday.
Foster averaged 8.5 points, 3.6 rebounds and 2.8 assists per game over 31 appearances, including 30 starts, this season. He made 40.2% of his 3-point attempts for the top-ranked Blue Devils (29-2).
The 6-foot-5 guard was hurt in the first half of a 76-61 win over the rival No. 19 North Carolina Tar Heels on Saturday in Durham, N.C. He underwent surgery Sunday morning.
Scheyer said Foster, who told him he will return, would be out at least "a few weeks." He also said the Blue Devils don't expect him back until a potential Final Four run.
