The State Planning Commission (SPC) has submitted 15 studies and reports on government schemes and emerging sectors to Chief Minister M.K. Stalin.
The reports were handed over by J. Jeyaranjan, Executive Vice-Chairman of the Commission, offering policy insights aimed at strengthening key development initiatives in the State.
This time, the SPC has studied the impact on athlete development, competitive performance, and ecosystem strengthening. It pointed out that Tamil Nadu accounts for 36 of India’s 89 Chess Grandmasters and is home two World Chess Champions.
At the global stage, the State has produced four medallists at the Paris Paralympics and fielded 12 Olympians at Paris, including six athletes in track and field events. These outcomes have been supported by a significant increase in public investment, with ₹1,945 crore allocated to sports over the past four years. The study was undertaken to examine whether sponsorship support is reaching socio-economically vulnerable segments; evaluate psychological and aspirational shifts; and to identify structural gaps and policy strengthening opportunities.
