MILAN — Declan Farmer looked to the stands when David Eustace netted his third goal 4:39 into the second period on Monday.
Eustace secured the first hat trick of his Paralympic career, and Farmer wanted to see if the fans would toss hats for the milestone. It came 13 minutes after Farmer flushed his second-consecutive hat trick — part of a 13-0 win over Germany in the Group A preliminary match at Milano Santagiulia Ice Hockey Arena.
Team USA has laced the back of the net 27 times over its first two matchups in the 2026 Winter Paralympics. Blowout wins can make it hard to generate takeaways, but the Americans learned enough to carry into Tuesday against China.
“I think we did a pretty good job of kind of staying in it with some intensity, because you can let yourself slip, and it's not going cost you in a game like this,” Farmer said. “So I think we did a pretty good job of not forming any bad habits, which is good to see.”
