The Legal Coordination Committee (LCC) for Government Doctors has condemned the denial of permission for government doctors to undertake a hunger strike demanding the fulfilment of promises, including pay band 4 for government doctors.
The LCC said in a statement that it was shocking that the police denied permission to the Federation of Government Doctors’ Associations to proceed with an indefinite hunger strike at the Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital on March 5.
It pointed out that this was the place where Chief Minister M.K. Stalin sat beside fasting doctors in solidarity during a protest in 2019, when he was the Opposition leader.
The LCC added that the officials seemed intent on preventing the doctors’ struggles from reaching the Chief Minister’s attention. It demanded that permission be granted for the government doctors to resume their indefinite fast.
The association pointed out that even after the National Medical Commission directed that government doctors nationwide should be paid on par with All India Institute of Medical Sciences, the Tamil Nadu government has ignored it.
