During the march in memory of far-right activist Quentin Deranque, in Lyon, on February 21, 2026. BRUNO AMSELLEM/DIVERGENCE FOR LE MONDE
Arrested on Wednesday morning, March 4, in the Lyon area and in the northeast Aube department, Mathis V., 22, and Igor E., 26, were charged and placed in preventive detention on Friday in Lyon, as part of a probe into "organized group murder," "complicity," "criminal conspiracy" and "aggravated assault," after the death of traditionalist and identitarian activist Quentin Deranque, 23.
Deranque passed away two days after clashes between radical far-right and far-left groups on February 12, on the sidelines of a talk at Sciences Po Lyon University by radical-left La France Insoumise (LFI) MEP Rima Hassan. The two young men join seven other activists indicted on February 19, accused in the violent incident during which Deranque was beaten to the ground.
