Three people died and a dozen people have been injured in a storm and reported tornado on March 6 in southern Michigan, according to the Branch County Sheriff's Office.

Of the 12 injured, three were taken to local hospitals after the storm in the area of Union Lake in Branch County, Michigan.

"Our thoughts are with those who have lost family, friends, and property during this incident," the sheriff's office said in a statement.

The National Weather Service office in Northern Indiana will be conducting storm surveys across portions of Cass, St. Joseph and Branch counties in Michigan in relation to damage from a severe thunderstorm which moved from Edwardsburg to Three Rivers and Union City on March 6.

Additional severe weather is possible overnight into March 7, officials said. Residents should seek shelter immediately and continue monitoring trusted weather and news sources for updated information.
