March 6 (UPI) -- Aboulfazl Khatibi Mianaei, the lone Iranian in the 2026 Paralympic Winter Games will not compete because of travel safety concerns, the International Paralympic Committee said Friday.
The 2026 Paralympic Winter Games will be held from Friday through March 15 in Milan and Cortina d'Ampezzo, Italy.
Mianaei, a two-time Paralympian, was to compete in the men's sprint classic Tuesday and the men's 10-kilometer interval start classic Wednesday.
Organizers cited the "ongoing conflict in the Middle East" as the reason for the travel concerns.
