March 6 (UPI) -- A Malaysian man is being recognized by Guinness World Records for his mouth filled with 42 teeth -- 10 more than the average person.
Prathab Muniandy, 33, told the record-keeping organization he first recognized something was unusual about his teeth a few years ago.
"I first noticed this in 2021 during a family tea-time gathering, when I mentioned to my family that I seemed to have extra teeth growing," he said. "We counted them together and found that I had 38 teeth at the time. A dental X-ray later showed that there were four more teeth that had yet to erupt. By early 2023, I realized that I had a total of 42 teeth. Fortunately, most of the teeth grew straight and without any complications."
Muniandy said his extra teeth don't cause him any trouble, and most people don't even notice until he mentions it.
"People are usually very surprised and initially find it hard to believe, especially when they learn that I have 10 more teeth than the average person, who typically has 32 teeth," he said.
