WHO Calls For The Protection Of Health Care Facilities Amid U.S. And Israeli Strikes In IranIn a briefing on Thursday, the World Health Organization stressed the need to protect health care facilities and workers amid US and Israeli strikes on Iran.“WHO has verified 13 attacks on health care in Iran, 1 in Lebanon,” Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, the director-general of WHO, said. “Under international humanitarian law, health care must be protected and not attacked.”According to Hanan Balkhy, WHO’s regional director for the eastern Mediterranean, multiple hospitals in Iran have been affected by recent strikes, and four ambulances have been damaged. She noted that the health facilities were largely impacted due to their proximity to other target sites, and that they had reported minor damage at this time.“In Lebanon, evacuation orders have forced the closure of 43 primary health care centers and two hospitals,” Balkhy added. “Violence has also affected the first responders with paramedics killed and injured.”Earlier this week, CNN reported that a newborn unit at a hospital in southern Iran had been damaged following airstrikes.See All UpdatesClose
