Trump Admin Does An About-Face On Law Firms CasesLess than 24 hours after filing a motion to withdraw its appeals of decisions striking down President Donald Trump's executive orders punishing four law firms, the Department of Justice has filed a motion to withdraw its withdrawal. The Trump administration had already lost the four cases brought by the law firms Susman Godfrey, Jenner & Block, Perkins Coie and WilmerHale in district court. They appealed the decisions, but then filed to withdraw the appeals on Monday — just days before their first filing was due. Now, they have filed to keep the appeal alive and asked for an extension on the filing. The law firms strongly opposed the motion to withdraw the motion to end the appeal: "Plaintiffs-Appellees oppose the government’s unexplained request to withdraw yesterday’s voluntary dismissal, to which all parties had agreed. Under no circumstances should the government’s unexplained about-face provide a basis for an extension of its brief."“Yesterday evening, the Administration told the Court that it gave up and wouldn’t even try to defend its unconstitutional executive orders," Susman Godfrey said in a statement. "Today, it reversed course. Regardless, Susman Godfrey will defend itself and the rule of law—without equivocation.”See All UpdatesClose
