March 3 (UPI) -- Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos said a a dedicated homicide team was now working on the case involving the disappearance of Nancy Guthrie, but officials were operating under the assumption she is alive.

Nancy Guthrie, the 84-year-old mother of Today show host Savannah Guthrie, was reported missing from her Tucson, Ariz., home Feb. 1.

In an interview with NBC News, Nanos said the sheriff's department's homicide unit was working with the FBI on the search. He said law enforcement was investigating thousands of leads they've received since Nancy Guthrie's disappearance.

"I think the investigators are definitely closer," he said.

Fox News Digital obtained doorbell camera footage of a vehicle driving in Nancy Guthrie's neighborhood, about 2.5 miles away from her home around the time of her abduction. Nanos said authorities haven't been able to identify the vehicle from the video.
