The residents of Vaikkalpattarai in Salem city staged a road roko on Monday demanding measures to control the stray dog population in their locality.

The Corporation-run Animal Birth Control (ABC) centre functions at Vaikkalpattarai in Ward 9. On Monday, the local residents staged a road roko on Ponnammapet-Veeranam Road, alleging that after sterilisation procedure at the centre, the dogs were being released in the locality. They alleged that the dogs were biting cattle and people.

On information, the Corporation officials held talks with the residents and assured them they would shift the ABC centre from the locality soon. Based on the assurance, the residents withdrew their protest.
