Feb. 27 (UPI) -- Sony Pictures announced Friday that Stand By Me will return to theaters next month for its 40th anniversary. Stand By Me runs for one week March 27 - April 3.

Stand By Me was the third film directed by the late Rob Reiner, following This Is Spinal Tap and The Sure Thing. It was based on Steven King's novella The Body from Different Seasons, the same collection that included The Shawshank Redemption.

The film stars Wil Wheaton, River Phoenix, Corey Feldman and Jerry O'Connell as four buddies in the 1950s. They trek to see a rumored dead body.

Kiefer Sutherland played the leader of a gang of bullies. Richard Dreyfus played Wheaton's character grown up, narrating the story.

Wheaton, Feldman and O'Connell have also been hosting reunion screenings with Q&As.
